Across Unlocks the Power of Arbitrum Fast Withdrawals

Tldr; Across integrates with Arbitrum's Fast Withdrawals, creating a symbiotic relationship that enhances native interop within the Orbit ecosystem. This integration enables Across to leverage native interop, offering developers in the Arbitrum ecosystem a powerful new tool to enhance their users' crosschain experience.

Key Takeaways:

  • Fast Withdrawals and Capital Efficiency: Arbitrum Fast Withdrawals reduce native bridging time from 7 days to ~15 minutes.

  • Seamless 2-Second Crosschain Experience: Intents, powered by Across, provides a 2-second crosschain experience between and within ecosystems while leveraging native interop under the hood.

  • Improved Economics: The integration enhances capital efficiency by enabling faster repayment for Across’ relayers, resulting in lower fees for users

Today, we’re announcing Across’ support for Fast Withdrawals on Arbitrum Orbit chains, leveraging withdrawal times from 7 days to approximately 15 minutes for adopting chains. Integrating Across with Arbitrum Fast Withdrawals creates a symbiotic relationship that enhances capital efficiency and responsiveness in the Orbit ecosystem.

How This Integration Benefits Across

As Ethereum embraces a multichain future, the demand for robust interoperability solutions has grown exponentially. While Across users have always enjoyed near-instant bridging speeds thanks to our intent-based system, Layer 2 solutions have introduced capital efficiency challenges for Across’ network of third-party relayers when bridging assets.

This integration strengthens Intents to provide users with a fast, 2-second cross-chain experience. By improving the repayment speed for Across relayers, Arbitrum Fast Withdrawal significantly reduces costs, allowing Across to deliver both a cost-effective and seamless experience across Arbitrum’s ecosystem.

Arbitrum’s Benefits from the Integration

This integration allows Arbitrum FW to meet users’ demand for a 2-second transaction time rather than 15 minutes, enhancing the user experience. Here’s how Arbitrum Fast Withdrawals gains from Across and Intents:

  • Faster, Safer User Experience: Intents shift risks like equivocation to experienced third-party fillers, reducing end-user exposure to these risks and simplifying the UX for cross-chain transfers.

  • Elimination of Infinite Mint Risks: By using intents, Orbit chains avoid the risks tied to mint-and-burn tokens, providing fast and secure native token transfers that enhance security and cost-efficiency for developers.

Arbitrum’s Fast Withdrawals system accelerates transfers from child chains to their parent chain, such as moving assets from an Orbit L3 to its underlying Orbit L2 or from an L2 to L1. However, Fast Withdrawals do not support direct transfers between sibling Orbit chains (e.g., from one Orbit L3 to another).

This is where Across comes in: Across will enable swift asset movement between Orbit chains and Arbitrum One, leveraging Fast Withdrawals for faster and more cost-effective transactions. Thanks to relayers, Across users will be able to transfer assets from an Orbit L3 to Arbitrum One in seconds. This capability also extends to Orbit L2s, providing quick withdrawals and efficient inter-chain transfers across the Arbitrum ecosystem.

Expanding Support for Arbitrum Orbit

Across is actively working to expand support across the entire Arbitrum Orbit ecosystem:

  • L3 Support: Across is developing support for L3-to-L3 transfers within the Arbitrum ecosystem. This feature is currently undergoing audits and will be announced once it's ready for deployment.

  • Custom Gas Token Support: For Arbitrum Orbit chains that use custom gas tokens, Across is working on a solution to enable full support. This feature is also in the audit phase and will be rolled out to improve interoperability across all Arbitrum Orbit chains.

  • AnyTrust Chains: Fast Withdrawals are expected to be supported on AnyTrust chains in the future, enabling efficient relayer rebalancing between these chains and their parent chain.

As Across continues to develop support for L3s and custom gas token chains, the full potential of this integration will unfold, bringing the vision of seamless crosschain interactions closer to reality for all Arbitrum users.
